The multicultural USA

In USA, there are many different people from many different cultures. 99% of the American inhabitants are immigrants or descendants of immigrants. There are people from all over the world, and people with every religion in the world. In the United States of America, you can find whatever type of people you are looking for. The first immigrants came to America in 1607, when the first British settlement was made. But if it hadn’t been for Christopher Columbus discovering America in 1492, the USA might have been a lot different from where it is today. Lots of people say that Columbus discovering America is the beginning of the American history, even though the Native Americans were they way earlier.

How USA became a mixed race society
Ever since 1607, when the first British settlement was made, people have moved to the USA. But in the early 1800’s, the first wave of immigrants came over the Atlantic Ocean. Mostly Europeans came, and they came because of political unrest, political or religious persecution, famine, poor harvesting, poverty and misery, oppression and rising population.

Approximately 75 per cent of the American people are white, and are descendants of the first immigrants, from the 1600s until today. The white people have been as a superior to the black people ever since slaves was brought from Africa to America, and although the law says all colors have the same rights, the white people have the best jobs, the best homes, lives in the best neighborhoods and earn the most money, for the most part.
The rest of the U.S inhabitants are black, Asians, Hispanics and Native Americans. The Native Americans constitutes not more than 1% of the American people.

Rasism
Since there are so many different cultures and people with different skin color, racism has been a big problem in America. Ever since black people were brought to America as slaves from Africa, they have been oppressed and discriminated. They lived in the worst houses and the worst neighborhoods, the worst jobs with the worst pay. They had the worst living standard. Earlier, it was way worse than it is today. They have a black preident, for the first time in American history. But still are there some racism throughout the country. Even today white people have a better chance of getting a job than a blacks or hispanics or asians or native americans with the same qualifications, and a bigger percentage of non-whites live below the poverty line.

At the end of the day, people ofte see the stereotypes of white, black, hipanics, Asian and natice Americans. For example, the stereotype of white people are that they are obese, lazy and dim-witted, like Homer Simpson in the animated serie "The Simpsons"
